The Mumbai Maternal Nutrition Project (MMNP)
We seek to analyse DNA methylation profiles of children from two randomised controlled trials, conducted in India and The Gambia, in which adult women were supplemented with micronutrients preconceptionally and during pregnancy.
The Peri-conceptional Multiple Micronutrient Supplemen-tation Trial was conducted in rural Gambia to determine the effects of maternal nutrition on placental function. Prepregnant women were supplemented with the UNICEF multiple micronutrient preparation (UNIMMAP) until confirmation of pregnancy. 8-9 year old offspring of the mothers who took part in the original PMMST are being followed up for the EMPHASIS study.
The Mumbai Maternal Nutrition Project (MMNP), also known as Project "SARAS" was conducted to determine the effects of maternal nutrition on fetal growth and functional outcomes of children. Nutritional food supplements were provided in the form of snacks to prepregnant women and continued during gestation. "SARAS KIDS" is a follow up investigation of the children born to MMNP mothers at the age of 5 to 7 years that would form part of the EMPHASIS study.
